What you need for wall tent camping

Setting up the wall tent

Are you planning a wall tent camping trip? Here’s what you need to know to make sure you have a safe and enjoyable trip.

Wall tent camping is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and get away from it all. But before you head out, there are a few things you’ll need to pack. Here’s a quick rundown of what you’ll need for wall tent camping:

-Platform: This is optional but most wall tents are meant to be placed on a raised platform. The platform provides a level area for the tent and the poles can be attached directly to the platform for extra stability. Being off the ground also helps with water issues during rainstorms. Once set up the wall tent can feel like a cabin in the woods. The options on how you equip the tent are endless.

– A tent: This is the most important item on the list. Make sure you have a tent that’s big enough to comfortably sleep all the members of your party. A wall tent is much larger and heavier than most backpacking or car camping tents. Make sure to have help when setting up the tent and arrive early so you are not trying to set the tent up in the dark. Stake down the tent so that it is secure and safe. We wouldn’t want the wind to cause issues if not staked down properly.

– Sleeping bags: These will keep you warm at night. It’s a good idea to bring sleeping bags that are rated for cold weather, just in case. Most wall tents come with a floor or an outdoor carpet can be used as well. This will help keep you off the ground and make for a more pleasant camping experience. Tent cots or air mattresses can also be used if you would rather not sleep directly on the ground.

– Pillows and blankets: Bring along some pillows and blankets to make your sleeping area more comfortable.

Wall tents can be left set up for more extended periods of time depending on the local climate. In our area, we rarely get snow so we would not have to worry about heavy snow loads on the tent. Some people even rent out their tents to earn extra income.

After your camping experience remember to clean up the tent and don’t leave any food or trash behind. Leaving even the smallest piece of food or trash could cause issues with animals, rodents, or bugs in the tent.
