Method
- Combine the flour and salt in a mixing bowl. Cut in the shortening until crumbly.
- Add the water 1 tablespoon at a time until a soft dough forms.
- Shape into a ball and divide into 4 equal portions.
- Roll each portion to ⅛ -inch thickness on a floured surface and cut into 1x2 inch strips.
Notes
No time to make dumplings? Use a can of prepared biscuits. Add a little flour to each and roll them out till thin, then cut into small squares. Drop into the chicken broth and cook till they are fluffy and start to float.
