Dumplings (for Chicken and Dumplings)

Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup shortening
  • ⅔ + 1 tbsp cup water

Method
 

  1. Combine the flour and salt in a mixing bowl. Cut in the shortening until crumbly.
  2. Add the water 1 tablespoon at a time until a soft dough forms.
  3. Shape into a ball and divide into 4 equal portions.
  4. Roll each portion to ⅛ -inch thickness on a floured surface and cut into 1x2 inch strips.

Notes

No time to make dumplings?  Use a can of prepared biscuits.  Add a little flour to each and roll them out till thin, then cut into small squares.  Drop into the chicken broth and cook till they are fluffy and start to float.
