October Catch-Up: Rain, Work, and Weekend Projects

Daily writing prompt
What have you been working on?

After weeks of dry skies, we finally got a much-needed inch of rain last night—the first since September 23rd. The ground soaked it up like a sponge, and I think we all breathed a little sigh of relief.

Work has been a bit of a roller coaster lately. With all the civilian staff on furlough since the end of September, things have felt quieter and a little more uncertain. As a contractor, I’m still working for now, but November is looming and we’re not sure what’s ahead.

On the home front, we spent last weekend tackling some property cleanup—cutting down several small trees to open up the space. It’s all part of the early prep for a small cabin we hope to build. It’s exciting to see the vision slowly take shape. One thing that I do love is our portable power stations. Since we do not have electricity at camp we depend on our power stations to keep batteries charged and it is much quieter than a generator. Plus with our portable solar panels it can be recharged at camp.

On a personal note, my feet have been giving me some grief thanks to plantar fasciitis, but thankfully, they’re on the mend. Both were hurting bad though now I’m down to only one. Other than icing, stretching, and NSAIDs do you know of any other home ideas to try? I believe my hiking boots last weekend were the culprit.

Have you met my new co-worker at work? She visits me when I take walks just to get away from my desk and computer for a break. Ok, truth be told I may be providing some sunflower seeds or peanuts to bribe my new friend.
