Yesterday we went for a little hike in the forest on our property. The night before we had a big storm that came through and with in just a couple of hours we had received over 3 inches (7.6 cm) of rain. The purpose of the hike was to check for any flooding damage, fallen trees, and to see if any mushrooms may have come up over night. Check out this video of a cordyceps infected moth we found on our property!
What we weren’t expecting was to find a different type of fungus and not one that we would be bringing home to eat.

The spiky growths protruding from the moth are the fruiting bodies of the fungus. These will release spores to infect other insects. I’m not quite sure of which fungus may have infected this moth but we didn’t stick around to find out. 😀
