This past weekend, we packed up and headed out to our property for a much-needed camping trip. It was the perfect way to unplug, enjoy the cool autumn weather, and get some work done around the site. We stayed in our canvas wall tent, which we’ve kept set up there (2 years now) —it’s become our home away from home. The tent always makes camping feel extra special, giving us that rustic but cozy vibe. Plus, no setup or tear down is needed.

Cooler Than Expected but Cozy Nights
The weather took a turn overnight, dipping into the 40s (F), which was cooler than we had expected. Fortunately, we brought extra blankets and stayed warm and comfortable through the night. There’s something special about bundling up under layers of blankets, with the crisp night air all around, and falling asleep to the quiet sounds of nature.

Grilling, Road Work, and Fall Clean-Up
During the day, we balanced work and relaxation. We grilled some delicious meals, because nothing beats food cooked outdoors. We also tackled some fall clean-up, collecting fallen limbs and cutting down a couple of trees to widen the road leading into camp. It was satisfying to clear the space and make it more accessible for future trips, not to mention having extra wood for the fire!
Fireside Evenings with We Are Legion
Each night, we relaxed by the campfire, listening to the audiobook We Are Legion (We Are Bob) by Dennis E. Taylor. It was the perfect companion for those cool evenings, drawing us into a clever sci-fi adventure while the fire crackled. There’s something so peaceful about sitting by the fire, wrapped in a blanket, letting the story unfold with the stars overhead.

A Great Time, Every Time
This weekend gave us everything we were hoping for—good food, productive work, and the simple joy of unwinding by the fire. Whether it was listening to We Are Legion, grilling, or improving the property, it felt like the ideal autumn escape.
We’re already looking forward to the next trip—hopefully, the weather won’t dip much further, but either way, we’ll be ready with extra blankets and good stories!
