Garden Update, Pasta Sauce, and Quilts

Tomatoes are doing great this year!

I hope you are having a great weekend. The weather here will be really hot and humid, the first of many days like this for the summer. On the plus side the garden is doing good with the heat but I have to remember to keep the garden watered. Today we are supposed to have near record heat of 100°F / 37°C. This is when sometimes I wish we had a pool, but then again I think the water would probably feel like bath water.

I roasted the tomatoes from this week with some olive oil and Italian seasonings. After they were roasted I removed the skins and now have a great sauce for pasta later this weekend.

If you’d like to see how I make my roasted tomato pasta sauce I have a short cooking video where I demonstrate the process.

Made some fresh tomato sauce for pasta.

This year we planted three different varieties of potatoes. Actually it was one bag of assorted potatoes that I picked up at the store. In all there were only about 9 potatoes, so we sorted them by color and planted them in 3 separate planters. These red ones did pretty good. The purple and yellow potatoes are still growing so I’ll dig those up once the vines die.

Harvested the red potatoes from the garden.

This week I worked on a quilt project that I’ve had for a while. When its too hot outside we have to think of indoor projects to work on. I found this quilt top years ago at a thrift store. I figured someone put a lot of work in it so I would finish the project. I restitched the squares, and added the blue border to make it a bit larger. The batting is light weight and I used a cream colored vintage sheet for the backing material. Right now I’ve only hand tied the quilt from top to bottom on each square corner to keep the batting from shifting. I haven’t decided if I’ll stitch each square yet or leave it as is. I may find a bright color to use for the edge binding. When done it will make a nice addition to our camping setup.

Worked on a quilt project.
Almost done. The last thing to do is to bind the edges.
