According to a 12 August 1904 article in the Birmingham Post-Herald, I.E. Sarber of Thorsby drilled two of the best artesian wells in the state. Each well was two inches and provided enough pressure to bring water from more than 35 feet above the surface. Each well is about eighty feet deep and has a discharge of more than fifteen gallons of water per minute. One well was located on the property of Capt. J.C. Burns, and the other on L.L. Chapman’s property (location is now the parking lot between First Presbyterian and Spiller’s Furniture).

While waiting for our turn to get water, we looked at Autauga Creek, which is directly behind the well-house. Once it was our time to fill we ended up bringing home 10 gallons of fresh water and filled up the crock. (Note: This is water that is naturally pushed to the top without needing a well pump. Do not drink water from creeks, streams, rivers, or lakes without treating it first.)
