It is the time of year where the outdoor humidity finally dropped and temperatures are finally a comfortable 78°F/25°C during the day. Friday night we had our first night of 58°F/14°C temps. It is the time of year when we don’t dread being outside. This summer was hot with little rain. Currently we are in a drought and everything is so brown, dry and crunchy.
On the plus side we can do fall clean up at camp and prepare for camping season! First up was a final mowing of the parking area, though I did leave a lot of wild flowers around the edges so that they could reseed and the birds could feed on the dried seed pods. The last thing we want to happen is to start a fire with dry grass touching underneath the truck.

I do love mowing. The part of yard work that I didn’t like was lifting the jug of fuel and filling the mower. Spills were common and with all the new safety nozzles where there is a button to press just made it harder for me to manage. Several years ago (2021) I found this battery powered fuel can attachment that made the process of filling up the mower much more streamlined and simple. No more wrestling the fuel jug! Just insert the nozzle and press the on button. The auto shutoff works great too!

The past week we’ve also been working on clearing more trees in a different area of the property. This will be our next project that we hope to start this year. Yesterday another 20 or so small sweet gum and ironwood trees were taken down. The oaks, maples, hickory, sycamore and birch will remain unless they look to be dying or have a large lean to them.
Most of the trees that we cut will be firewood for the wood burning stove and the small stuff will get mulched. The more we work the more tools we seem to need for the property. The UTV can only haul so much, so next up will be a heavy duty trailer for hauling. Less trips back and forth from the build area. There wasn’t a lot on marketplace so we went where everyone else goes and found one on Amazon. I know what we’ll be assembling next week.
If you want to know more about what we’ve been using see the links below.
