Marbled Orb-weaver Spider

Marbled Orb-weaver

While hiking this past weekend, I came across a Marbled Orb-weaver spider—a real eye-catcher! This plump little spider had a vibrant orange and yellow marbled pattern on its abdomen, making it look almost like a tiny pumpkin.

Marbled Orb-weavers are common in woodsy areas during the fall and are known for their big, beautiful webs. Despite it striking appearance, they’re harmless to humans, preferring to stay hidden during the day and come out at dusk to repair their webs. It was a cool reminder of the diversity of creatures out there, even in the chilly months! It was also a reminder to keep an eye out where you are walking on the trail else you may meet face to face.
