🧂 DIY Faux Point Seasoning Blend – A Flavorful Fox Point Alternative

Looking for a homemade alternative to Penzeys Fox Point Seasoning? This DIY Faux Point Seasoning Blend is a delicious and budget-friendly substitute that brings bold flavor to your favorite dishes. Whether you’re seasoning chicken, vegetables, or making a savory dip, this blend is a pantry must-have.

Recently we ran out of Penzey’s Fox Point seasoning. I thought I would try to duplicate the spice blend. I used spices I had on hand in the pantry. The green peppercorns I did not have but was able to find them online.  The fun part is that during the blending process, you can adjust the amounts of each spice. Mix them to your taste.  Since I wanted a little more “heat” in the blend I slightly increased the amount of Green Peppercorns.

Plus this was a great time to break out the nut and spice grinder someone got for Christmas.

This is not necessarily a replacement for Penzey’s Fox Point. It is a similar blend. I made my own assumptions of the spice ratios based on their listed order on the label.  If you would like any of the spices to be more “obvious” in your blend then I would recommend leaving them more coarsely chopped.

Spices in a jar

This blend concoction is made up of dried chives, dried shallots, salt, dried onion, minced garlic, and green peppercorns.

“Fox Point” Type Seasoning Mix

Similar to Penzeys Fox Point seasoning mix. Great on eggs, meat, vegetables, and salads. My version of a copycat recipe for Fox Point.

Equipment

  • Cuisinart Nut and Spice Grinder

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp Chives – Freeze Dried
  • 3 tbsp Shallots – Freeze Dried
  • 2 tbsp Salt
  • 2 tbsp Onion – Minced – Dried
  • 1.5 tbsp Garlic – Minced – Freeze Dried
  • 1 tbsp Green Peppercorns – Ground

Instructions

  • Individually grind the Chives, Shallots, Onion, Garlic, and Green Peppercorns. I ground each for about 5 pulses so that they were "ground" but not all the way to powder form.
3 tbsp Chives – Freeze Dried, 3 tbsp Shallots – Freeze Dried, 2 tbsp Salt, 2 tbsp Onion – Minced – Dried, 1.5 tbsp Garlic – Minced – Freeze Dried, 1 tbsp Green Peppercorns – Ground
  • Mix together all ingredients. I used the spice grinder to give them all a blend together. Pulse 3 times.
  • Store in an airtight spice bottle or jar.

I love Fox Point, but for personal reasons I won’t spend my money with them.
