Growing up very close to Cheaha Mountain there were plenty of Civilian Conservation (CC) roads to explore. I never really put it together until a few years ago on what exactly these dirt roads were and how they were created. Not sure what a CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) State Park is either?

Alabama has a few, so check them out.

Your great grandfather may have worked at the CCC camps.
