Someone’s Handiwork

image

A few months back I found two quilt tops at a local thrift store.  For the pair, it was less than $5 so right off I was seeing a quilting project in my future.     Now to do some research and pick up the rest of the supplies.  It’s time to honor a project that someone’s mother, aunt, or grandmother started and finish this quilt!

Quilt size: 60″ x 81″
Material: Feed Sack Cloth

My Grandmothers Quilt

I believe the quilt was made around the early 1900’s.

Since it’s black and white print squares, I would say post-civil war. But, the yellow makes me think it’s around the 1920s. The photo doesn’t quite show the dark autumn yellow correctly. It’s a dark harvest gold in person but has gotten darker with age. The back is one pattern with white, blue, and red stripes. The quilting and edge binding are all hand stitched.
