Bell’s Seasoning: A Timeless American Culinary Tradition

I found this old advertisement in the back of The Boston Cooking-School Cookbook.  The original recipe book is much older, but this version features ads from 1924.

Bell’s Seasoning is a historic and beloved blend of herbs and spices that has been an integral part of American culinary traditions for over a century. Created in 1867 by William G. Bell, a Boston-based inventor and businessman, this unique seasoning quickly gained popularity for its exceptional ability to enhance the flavor of Thanksgiving turkey stuffing.

Its blend of rosemary, oregano, sage, ginger, and marjoram, among other spices, provides a harmonious and timeless flavor profile that captures the essence of holiday meals. Bell’s Seasoning has become synonymous with festive gatherings, evoking a sense of nostalgia and comfort as generations of cooks continue to sprinkle it into their dishes. Its enduring legacy and continued use in kitchens across the United States stand as a testament to the power of a well-crafted seasoning to connect people through the shared experience of food.
