Mom’s 1980’s Mazzetti Casserole Recipe: A Nostalgic Suppertime Dish

Occasionally I’ll be posting some recipes I grew up with in the 1980’s. I’ve been looking through Mom’s old recipe box and thought I’d share another recipe. Just thinking about them brings back memories of Saturday evening suppertime. Enjoy!

Mazzetti Casserole

Course: Main Course
Cuisine: Italian

Ingredients
  

  • 1/5 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, large, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 3 celery ribs, chopped
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 can cream of tomato soup
  • 1 t sugar
  • 2 T chili powder
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 egg noodles package, cooked
Topping
  • grated mild cheese

Method
 

  1. Brown together onions, bell pepper, celery and ground beef.  Drain.
  2. Add together with all other ingredients. 
  3. Put into a casserole dish or baking pan.  Cook covered for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. 
  4. When done, sprinkle top with grated cheese.  Continue cooking uncovered until cheese melts.
